What are the pros and cons on internet telephone service?
Question by Let there be JIMBO: What are the pros and cons on internet telephone service?
My company is thinking to switch to a new phone provider that uses VOIP technology. It’s voice + data so conversations, they claim, are very clear. Does anybody have any knowledge of this?
It’s similar to Vonage, but I guess it’s more high quality?

Hey Jimbo, I know about this. My company just went with VoIP. The only problem we seem to have is if someone calls you from a cell phone sometimes cuts in and out. People also sound “far away” but not all of the time. The VoIP phones we got have caller ID and tons of rings to choose from. You can also delete the message from your email before you even have to listen to it (I am guilty of this.) It will save your company a ton of money too, but I doubt they will pass the benefits on to the employees.. Most companies do not.

If your electricity goes out you don’t have a phone.
Good Luck
It would be voice over data. which is what VoIP means.
VoIP works by converting the voice to data packets and sending across the internet. They are decoded and then the sound is reconstructed on the other end.
Generally speaking it is a reliable communication.
Were you too embarrassed to tell you lasted three days?? lol
But I found you.
I’m probably due a violation for chatting but so be it. Just wanted to say hey and that I’m glad you have the resiliance to keep coming back. You know I’d die if you weren’t somewhere around here somewhere. Have a great holiday……
OH! And just to make this a semi legitimate answer……. uhm, no, I know nothing about this technology. Does it come with free food and beer?
along with the fact that if you loose power you loose the phone, you also defeat the ability to use 911 effectively.
I use Vonage…and yep…if you loose power or internet access…you’re pretty much SOL…but…it’s so cheap (as am I), I just love it, the phone quality is great, the free long distance is great…and my phone number isn’t in any bleedin’ phone books! Whoo-Hooo! And Dee’s lasagna sucks man….mine is so much better.
